Mile in My Shoes 2019 teams:

Higher Ground Shelter MPLS, 165 Glenwood Ave. MPLS, MN 55405

Team Higher Ground Minneapolis was our original Mile in My Shoes team and began running in the spring of 2014. Higher Ground is a Catholic Charities adult shelter located in Downtown Minneapolis near Target Field & the Minneapolis Farmer’s Market. HG includes several different types of housing, from emergency overnight housing (171 bunks) to long-term supportive housing. While the majority of guests at HG are male, there may be several women who reside in their long-term housing floor. Team runs at HG are Tue/Thur at 6AM and Saturday at 7AM.

VOA Southside - Volunteers of American Residential Reentry Center - 2825 E Lake St. MPLS, MN 55406

Team VOA Southside is a Residential Re-entry Center (RRC) which provides re-entry services for men who are allowed to complete part of their prison sentences in the community (aka a “halfway house”). This affords them the opportunity to restore community ties, obtain employment, and pay a portion of their care and supervision to the state or federal jurisdictions who have authority over them for the period of their stay in the RRC.

VOA Roseville - Volunteers of American Residential Reentry Center - 1771 Kent St, Roseville, MN

Team VOA Roseville is an RRC very similar to our Southside team. However, VOA Roseville’s program includes women, so the team is co-ed.

Higher Ground Shelter St. Paul - 435 Dorothy Day Place, St. Paul, MN 55102

Replacing the former Dorothy Day shelter located in Downtown St. Paul, the recently-opened Higher Ground SP is modeled after its Minneapolis counterpart. Likewise, HG SP includes several different types of housing, from emergency overnight housing to long-term supportive housing. Unlike HG Minneapolis, where most residents/guests are male, HG St. Paul has 60 beds specifically for female residents in their permanent housing and they currently make up a large part of our MiMS team. HG SP also includes many run/walkers.
