I am thrilled to introduce myself as the Advocacy and Education Coordinator for Mile in My Shoes! Though I am also learning to be more comfortable calling myself a “runner”, I come to you rooted in my identity as a mother, educator and policy advocate.
In spring 2022, I was encouraged by some dear friends to sign up for my first half marathon and found Mile in My Shoes through the official partnership with the City of Lakes Half Marathon. Though finishing a half was one of my top bucket-list goals, I signed up to be a FundRacer because I thought it would hold me more accountable for training. What I found was a renewed sense of purpose centered on the power of setting and achieving health and wellness goals as well as supporting others in achieving theirs!
Over the course of training season, I learned more about Mile in My Shoes and was inspired by the stories of members and alumni. It was on race day, when I finally got to feel the energy of the MiMS team in person, that I realized the organization was truly something special. I am eager to be a part of a community that shows up for each other because of a commitment to support each individual in reaching their full potential.
Prior to moving to Minnesota in 2018, I worked in both the non-profit and education sectors. I am energized by the potential for change built on strong community networks, meaningful policy reform, public education and civic engagement.
I look forward to connecting with you as we advocate for meaningful social action and policy change on issues important to MiMS Members. Thank you for being a part of our community!
In partnership,
Rebecca
