Staff Openings

Mile in My Shoes is currently searching for our next Executive Director! We are seeking an experienced non-profit leader to lead our community of engaged staff, committed volunteers, residents, and a broad group of community supporters into the next phase of Mile in My Shoes. The next Executive Director will be grounded in the running community and lead the effort to transition MiMS to continue our growth trajectory with a focus on long-term sustainability. Through diversifying revenue generation and managing administrative and other expenses, the ED will expand our capacity to serve marginalized communities within the Twin Cities and beyond.  The ED will be the steward and effective manager of MiMS assets including financial, programs, staff, volunteers, community relationships and the board of directors.

As a community-based organization, we are acutely aware of the impact of race, gender, and power dynamics in both our internal leadership structures and how we show up for the people we serve. As such, we are seeking a leader with an awareness on how they wield their power and how it flows through the organization. We are seeking a transparent leader who supports horizontal and collective decision making, and can maintain a positive, inclusive organizational culture.

Board of Directors

At-large Board Members: The MiMS Board of Directors is a group of individuals who are responsible for the overall governance and financial responsibility of the organization. While the MiMS staff makes nearly all programmatic decisions, the board approves the annual budget, collaborates on strategic planning, creates and updates organization policy, and oversees the Executive Director, among other responsibilities. Additionally, because Mile in My Shoes is still in its growing stage, all board members serve on a committee, including finance, development, governance, or planning. MiMS’ Board Members are expected not only to attend eight meetings per year but also actively participate in the organization in various ways, including Mentoring with a team, attending major events, and making a personally significant financial donation or participating as a FundRacer once per season. All MiMS Board Members are also expected to act as ambassadors of MiMS in the community.

MiMS is currently seeking new At-Large Board Members with a passion to help lead the organization forward and drive our mission: We run together to transform ourselves, one another, and our community. Skills or experience we are specifically seeking right now: graphic design, legal, program evaluation, governance and prior non-profit board experience. We also especially encourage BiPOC and LGBTQI+ individuals, MiMS’ Alumni Members and others with lived experience in the communities we serve to apply. Read more about the position and apply here.
